Highlights: Dolphins, Mirage waterfall/volcano and pirate battle, shotglasses

Thursday we woke up around 9:30AM PST. We were in a lazy mood so we had pizza delivered to our hotel room and ate it there. We decided to see a show.

We went to the Tropicana to catch a magic show that was during the day. The magician was Rick Thomas. Very impressive show. We have no idea how those tigers materialized right in front of our eyes, especially from a box that couldn't even hold the volume of one tiger. No mirrors. No trap doors. Or so it really really seemed.

After seeing the magic show we went back to that gift shop where we saw the cool Sphinx object and bought it ($110). Conveniently if you ship it you don't have to pay for state sales tax which saves you the cost of shipping.

After that, we headed over to The Mirage/Treasure Island. We parked at Treasure Island, then took the tram to The Mirage.

tram between Treasure Island and Mirage. We parked at Treasure Island but immediately took the tram to The Mirage, then came back to Treasure Island after the Volcano eruption. [The light at the end of the tunnel is just an illusion...]

Once in The Mirage, we walked through the Atrium/indoor gardens that they had. It was like being outside while being inside.

After that, we bought some more souvenier glasses.
[even yellower in real life] yellow Martini glass from The Mirage [very yellow]
[intense yellow glow -- not green] This thing (the yellow Martini glass from above) glows intensely in the blacklight! When 1 foot away from a blacklight it casts more visible light than the blacklight itself. You could easily read by the light of this glass if you had a blacklight right next to it. Extremely bright. The digicam pic seems green even though it's blazing bright yellow - I think ultraviolet flourescence shows up weird on cameras (especially since camcorders record blacklights as pink-coloured instead of purplish).

We also brought an actual shotglass from The Mirage. This one appears clear when viewed horizontally but turns purple as you look down the "barrel" of the glass.

After buying the glasses, we tried to go see the white tigers, but we were too late in the day. They closed obscenely early. (How does a tiger close anyway?) So we only got to see the dolphins. However ... The dolphins ruled!!

Finally, we got to go on the dolphin tour and hear all kinds of interesting facts.

Huh huh... They swim in their own wee wee.

One of the dolphins had come up to the edge of the water right near us. Clint had recalled how during the dolphin tour, they had mentioned that they trained the dolphins to respond to hand signals.

So Clint decided to make a "roll over" hand-signal. But the dolphin actually listened. It stuck it's body halfway out of the water and spun around over and over for at least 10 seconds! It was really cool!!

enough damn dolphins already! [ENOUGH IS ENOUGH]

After the dolphins, we went to the front of The Mirage. We gambled very slowly in order to get free drinks. By this point Clint had settled on alternating between ordering Amaretto Sours and Melon Sours. Carolyn tended to go for the Melon Sours, Whiskey Sours, and Piña Coladas.

Anyway, we went outside to see the volcano erupt (which happens every 15 minutes -- but not til dusk).
This was the first eruption of the night.

As you can see, The Mirage volcano is impressive.

Afterwards, we took the tram to Treasure Island and saw the pirate battle. It happened every 90 minutes. It was a cool battle, including flames you could feel (of course). The Captain went down with his ship. Then, when the ship resurfaced several minutes later he was still standing there and just spit out a bunch of water. :)

Afterwards we decided to go see a comedy show, because we had a lot of fun at the other one. We left & went to the Riviera to see their comedy club show for that night.

[ticket to The Comedy Club]

The show featured Todd Paul & Kip Adotta...it wasn't as good as Comedy Stop with Ron Shock at the Tropicana. But Todd Paul was pretty cool. He got this old dork to get up and copy what ever he did, then proceeded to do a bunch of dork body-language stuff that just looked funnier coming from a confused old man than from a stand-up comedian. You had to be there.

After that, we went back to our hotel and slept.
